Viva Las Vegas!

Sorry for the title, it had to be done!

Today we left Vegas after spendng New Year in the “Entertainment Capital of the World”
It won’t be an experience we’ll forget. The size and sheer opulence of the hotels, casino’s and shopping malls has to be seen to be believed. We wish we were rich! Planet Hollywood had the best casino and The Venetian was the poshest.

Our motel was cheap and not too far from the strip. It had a great view.

As it was New Year, the strip was very busy, and the millionaires were out in force. Watching people play on the $1k minimum bet tables was sickening as we walked over to the penny machines. The free drinks were good though!

New Years Eve was very good, though the fireworks were a BIG letdown, ie we didn’t actually see any! Considering the Casino’s must make the cost back in an hour it was very disapointing.

We saw the newly refurbished volcano outside Mirage (at a cost of $25m) , the pirate show at Treasure Island, the Fountains of Bellagio. We were due to see a show but were hanging after NYE so gave it a miss. (Rach drunk a cocktail out of an Eiffel Tower container the size of a midget and ended the nght flat on her face after tripping over a man hole cover!)

We are now just outside the Grand Canyon National Park, ready to do a trek tomorrow.

How was your NYE? Let us know.

Matt

You both look remarkably well after New Year in Vegas- is that a tiara Rachel is wearing. You know mum worries about your budget diet, so it was nice to see lots of greens on the steak plate. You never said if you won anything on the slot machines? Cold and frosty back in UK so enjoy the sun and fun where you are.

Brilliant, well done Rachie, love the fact you fell over after drinking lots of cocktails, that’s my girl!

Your photo’s are fab. The Christmas Cabin looks amazing, just what you imagined!

Nice pictures of Vegas, we think some time spent in the ‘Venetian’ would be nice ! Glad you enjoyed it there. Looking forward to seeing the pics of the Grand Canyon, better than taking down the Xmas decs here at home ! xxx

Hey guys,

Happy New Year!
Sounds like you had one to remember!
NYE here was tops, one of the best I can remember, P&P cocktails, house party for 12, and then Junk til 7!
How did I keep going that long! 🙂

Keep having a top time,

Rob

HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS

SO jealous that you got to see the volcano working… it was still being refurbished when we went.

Did you get down to Freemont street??

Vegas on a budget is V rubbish!! has the Eiffel tower cup made it in the backpack? My Guitar cup didn’t!!

at Sunset in the GC the rangers do FREE little talks … it’s quite good as its a usually an Indian so you get to hear a bit about the spiritual side of GC so can be quite interesting.

only a couple of days till you get to Fiji now… Will be even more jealous then

in Nadi we stayed in Nomads Skylodge…. reasonable price and they have a nice pool. Try and get Room 4C the cottage out the front…. you can sort of get your own private room within a dorm there!!

And dont forget to book your islands as soon as you get sorted on the boat!!

Have fun Guys

Hey all
Yes that was a tiara on my head – it says ‘Vegas Baby’ and it is coming home – unlike the Eiffel Tower cup that Matt ‘forgot’ to pick up from beside a slot machine!
Junk til 7?! Rob I’m impressed – I think we only made it to about half 3 – and an hour of that was the walk back as the strip closes to traffic on NYE!
Didn’t get to Fremont St unfortunately, day 4 was kinda wasted due to incredible hangovers so missed a couple of planned stops – an excuse to go back one day with a less strict budget me thinks!
Counting down the days to Fiji – thank you for the advice Lee & Kirst – will make good use of it. I’m picking our island visits in advance from your list in the book! The volcano was very cool – Matt is going to put vid on so you can get a preview.

Hey moi again – (you be sick of me soon!). We took your advice and drove to Vegas and Hoover Dam from LA. It wasnt too bad of a drive with a break in a restaurant called Mad Greek in Baker. It was a funny drive as I could not stick to the middle of my lane lol. Car prices was steep for us because of being under 25 but i thought it was worth it for the freedom esp. in US. Vegas was awesome, Dave had a lucky streak winning on penny machines lol and roulette tables 60bucks! – i wasnt too lucky though.

We didnt manage to go to Yosemite days after and Grand Canyon a week after because of snow storms. Next time eh. But we did manage to snowboard on Mountain High, shoot guns in orange county and eat in cheesecake factory just like you said! I liked the key lime pie and Dave obviously went for death by chocolate.
