Rachel and Matt’s World Tour

Pacific Coast Highway

Yesterday we left LA, and drove up to Pismo Beach, a small town, around 150 miles drive.
Ria, we saw the Rock ‘n Roll Cafe/Winnebago Diner, but didn’t stop for dinner. Wish we had now! We had an expensive and not too great Italian instead.

Pismo Beach was only an overnight stop and after taking a walk along the beach this morning, we continued up the coast.

1st stop today was Morro Bay. It was a beautiful place with a great golf course! We took in a nature museum and then moved up further to Hearst Castle.

One word, extravagant! When one of the Richest men in the world decides to build his ideal home, and money is no object this is the result.

The “castle” is situated on top of a mountain, almost 500m high, and takes a 4 mile drive to get there from the visitor centre. We were both in awe of the scale of the place, it blows the houses we saw in Bel-Air away! Hopefully the pics will give a good impression of how big the place is. Even the guests houses (3!) haveĀ 7 bedrooms!

After Hearst Castle we drove back to San Simeon, and saw our first decent Sunset of the trip so far.

Tomorrow we’re off to Big Sur, so even more great views are expected!

Its going to be a long year for all of us if you keep showing off what a great time you’re having with great pics!
I take it the house by the Jurys Inn is not what you want now! Did you put in an offer? How much is it worth?

“Los Angeles, you are too hot …”
a butch man says so on the opening of Morrissey “first of the Gang”
I haven’t a clue if the rest of the song has the faintest to do with international travel (or ‘airplane landing approaches’, which is where I think the original recording comes from, I dunno).
Anyway
Glad to hear that you are settling into the sight seeing. The Hearst Rancho is impressive yes, and you did seem to get a good weather day to see it on which adds to it. Architect had clearly not seen me play tennis (unsurprising really!?) becuase of the decision to put glass bricks near the tennis net so as to illuminate the underground swimmingpool sureley that was gonna affect the net play of a tennis player anywhere near my standard of competancy?!
I had my pic taking outside the church where Marilyn Monroe had her wedding photos taken. She didn’t go inside the church on her wedding day because she (and him) had been previously been married and they were not welcome, I didn’t go inside because of a rabidly unreligious holiday companion in my brother!

notice the slight kink in my left arm – if wasn’t such a criminally single guy, there would have been a woman latched on, (although probably not like MM)!

Enjoy driving along Big Sur. stop regularly. Because you are driving north you have to indicate and not CRASH into oncoming traffic when you pull-over, normally tourists drive south on Big Sur for this reason! take care, but do take it all in.
Not far from San Simeon (however spelled) the seals have a beach, you might hear it as you approach.
My brother and me stopped for a couple of times for coffee and a stroll not far south from Bixby bridge, I cannot remember the places. One place on a big inland bend (there was roadworks when we were there and just a tiny pull up parking place) you can walk down through the scrub bushes to the water in a tiny bay and have your picnic (what a fancy way to say Gatorade and Chips in public!!)

Look forward to hearing more of your good trip

ps. Did I say? I am just a tad pissed!

Hi
Impressive pictures! Harry was most upset when you said you were going to feed Paddington Bear to the sharks at the aquarium! You promised Harry that you’d bring Paddy home in one piece following his world tour !! PS Paddy says don’t take him to Peru because he has already been there. Rachel ensure Matt puts the ‘flower in your hair’ for San Francisco. Here’s to the next instalment, take care, speak soon.
